Formic acid is the only fatty acid with a hydrogen atom attached to the carboxyl group. The repulsive force of the hydrogen atom is much smaller than that of the hydrocarbon group, resulting in a lower electron density of the carboxyl carbon atom compared to other carboxylic acids.
