Nitric Acid HNO3 Used As A Cleaning Agent in The Metallurgical Industry
Product Description
Nitric acid is a strong acid with the chemical formula HNO 3. Its aqueous solution is commonly known as nitric acid water. Nitric acid is an important chemical raw material. Pure nitric acid is a colorless liquid with a boiling point of 83 ℃ and a bitter taste. It condenses into colorless crystals at -42 ℃ and is miscible with water. It has strong oxidizing and corrosive properties. The properties of different concentrations of aqueous solutions vary. Commercial concentrated nitric acid is an azeotrope with a solute mass fraction of 69.2%, a boiling point of 121.6 ℃ at one atmosphere, a density of 1.42g · cm − 3, approximately 16mol · L − 1, and a sufficiently high solute weight percentage (with the highest commercial concentration of over 98%), known as fuming nitric acid.

Nitric acid, regardless of its concentration, has oxidizing and corrosive properties, making it very dangerous to humans. Even if it splashes onto the skin, it can cause serious burns. After contact with nitric acid, the skin will gradually turn yellow, and the yellowed epidermis will eventually peel off (nitric acid and protein contact can cause a yellow protein reaction and denaturation). In addition, concentrated nitric acid should be stored in dark glass bottles to avoid the release of toxic NO2 due to light reactions.
Nitric acid, other than red fuming appears as a pale yellow to reddish brown liquid with reddish brown vapors and a suffocating odor. Very toxic by inhalation. Corrosive to metals or tissue. Accelerates the burning of combustible material and may cause ignition of combustible materials upon contact. Prolonged exposure to low concentrations or short term exposure to high concentrations may result in adverse health effects.
