Sulfuric acid is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula H2SO4, and is the most important oxygen-containing acid for sulfur. Pure sulfuric acid is a colorless oily liquid that crystallizes at 10.36 ℃. It is usually obtained by various aqueous solutions of different concentrations using tower and contact methods. The former obtains crude dilute sulfuric acid, with a mass fraction generally around 75%; The latter can obtain concentrated sulfuric acid with a mass fraction of 98.3%, a boiling point of 338 ℃, and a relative density of 1.84.
Sulfuric acid (alternative spelling sulphuric acid), also known as vitriol, is a mineral acid composed of the elements sulfur, oxygen and hydrogen, with molecular formula H2SO4. It is a colorless, odorless, and viscous liquid that is soluble in water and is synthesized in reactions that are highly exothermic.
Its corrosiveness can be mainly ascribed to its strong acidic nature, and, if at a high concentration, its dehydrating and oxidizing properties. It is also hygroscopic, readily absorbing water vapor from the air.Upon contact, sulfuric acid can cause severe chemical burns and even secondary thermal burns; it is very dangerous even at lower concentrations.
